The appetite for Food TV was stoked by the launch of Food Network in the USA in 1993 and, while it did not reach the UK until 2009, many of Britain’s most successful shows were already in American sitting rooms by the millennium, including BBC Two’s Two Fat Ladies (1996– 99), The Naked Chef (1999– 2001), and Channel 4’s Nigella Bites (1999).
