By popular demand, this is the on line version of the off-line food writing retreats I hold most months at my home in East Sussex for those who can’t get here any other way.
This is for paid subscribers only and opens a door to a whole community of writers and writers-in-waiting who want accountability, mentoring and a hand to hold when the grip of the Imposter/Tortoise Syndrome gets too tight.
Here’s the deal, you can join the chat here with other food writers, share your ideas and hold each other to account. Or, I can help.
I’m offering £100 a month for an hour's one-on-one mentoring for a specified amount of time. We’ll set the number between us when we chat.
We’ll drill down into what you want to say, to whom, and why, just as we do in the off-line retreats, and build a book, Substack, or maybe a podcast as your central focus.
I’ll hold you to account on a weekly write, whether that’s online or off (it’ll probably be on; I will push you…) It might be on whatever you've done that week, a splurge of process or the first chapters of the book you’ve always wanted to write. I’ll hold you to account, and gently but firmly hold your hand as you find your voice. I’ll pass the tissues when you do.
You'll post about your journey on Instagram, create events - maybe Supper Clubs, or community get togethers and become the thought leader in your world. Like
who came to the very first How to Cook a Book IRL retreat, you might ditch the day job and become the caterer of your dreams.
Email gilly@gillysmith.com to chat about mentoring, or start the chat.
Such a great suggestion, Gilly - yr going to have a queue round the block. Wish yd been around when I first starting writing about food in 1978. Invested in one of the first desk-top computers on the never-never - used to carry it around like a laptop when working on regional cooking for The Scotsman. Muscle-power.
I am booked in! Cannot wait to continue my writing journey. See you Monday Gilly!
